Laser synchronization and ASOPS
In the asynchronous optical sampling technique two femtosecond lasers with slightly detuned repetition rates are used to do fast time domain scanning. This is advantageous for ultrafast time-domain spectroscopy that can evaluate carrier relaxation, lattice vibrations, and other collective dynamic phenomena (polaritons, plasmons, superconductivity, phase transitions etc.) in solids, semiconductors and gases.
