Spectrometer calibration

Because of their locking to a standardized radio frequency source the optical frequency comb can be used as a ruler to calibrate ultra high resolution spectrographs. Astronomers need such a precision calibration to measure tiny Doppler shift in the atomic lines of distant stars, which enables exoplanet detection.
